Open Chatroom > Opener
Hi Brad,
Thanks for the kudos on the site. I like to mix it up from time to time and I was due for a new look to the site. As always, its still a work in progress too!
The opener? Hmmm. Like everyone, I'm very optimistic about the opener, but then again we are that way every year! I honestly think that it should be one of the better openers that we've had in a while. The spawn has been done for several weeks now which is a good thing. While the water temps have dropped several degrees in the past few days, that doesn't change the fact that these fish are spawned out and putting their spring feedbag back on. In fact, I hope that this cold weather and dropping water temps will be a good thing for us. Cold spring water temps typically keep the fish up shallow and we may still have that option this year on opener. I'm planning on fishing between 1 and 10 feet of water. I know a lot of people will go deeper than this, but I usually don't move past 10 feet until mid-June.
I'm sure all of these factors will differ from one lake to the next, but I'd say the usual tactics should work slightly better than most years because of the early spring and no signs of the spring spawn remaining. Jig and minnow or crankbaits are probably going to be dynomite this year...like most years! Good luck!
