Ding Ding...Round 2

After Monday's gobbler, all I had on my mind was getting back out into the woods and onto some more long beards. Tuesday, Josh and I started on a field edge that we have seen two nice toms strutting through in the days prior. As we were pulling up, someone had just attempted to sneak them, but just managed to drive them out of the field. None the less, we gave it an hour try, but it didn't pan out. We started to another location and all that decided to show up was a couple of hens. We chalked up the night as a learning experience and high hopes for the next morning. Feeling a little confused and disheartened, there was only one thing I could do....cut a sweet mustache. With my new confidence, Tyler, Josh, and I hit another field edge, but we were just greeted by a very inquisitive deer. We packed up and started to drive out when we saw 2 big gobblers and a bunch of hens working a field next to the river. We snuck down the edge of the river and tried to get into calling position. I gave a few yelps and they started to come on in, but as we started to pop our heads out they got a little antsy. Tyler was able to put an excellent shot on a tom, but Josh wasn't so lucky. I wasn't able to get it on film, but we still have plenty of time and more than enough turkeys! The turkey weighed in at 22 pounds, with 1/2'' spurs and an 8'' beard. It was an excellent morning in the field and also on the way home we spotted a couple more toms. This morning should be a great time, and I can't wait to feed my new addiction. From the beards, and mustaches.....Keep Livin' the Dream!
