Out Foxed!

I have been putting a few hours hunting predators throughout the winter and it has been a learning experience to say the least.  Yesterday Josh and I decided to make the trek out to our fall stomping grounds to search for some fury critters.  We drove up on our first set and started making the 300 yard walk to a knoll overlooking a gigantic marsh with about 100 yards of sparse prairie grass in between.  We both got situated and Josh flipped the FoxPro to some coyote yips on a low volume.  Not more than 30 seconds later I see something prancing along the edge of the marsh.  I quick gave Josh a shout to flip it to the Jack Rabbit in distress, there was a fox coming.  As soon as the distress call came on the fox stopped dead in its tracks and then started to run to the call.  It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen, it was straight out of a predator hunting DVD.  The foxy was about 200 yards out and kept closing the distance, stopping and then running in to the call.  He finally got to within 100 yards and stopped behind a large clump of phragmites.  Before long he was running in on the caller again but now he was getting a little close.  I wasn't sure if he would stop for a shot but sure enough he stopped to take a final look around 60 yards and one shot took him down.  We starting walking up to it when from the marsh a coyote started zipping across the field.  He stopped about 400 yards away offering a perfect shot, I got into position, squeezed the trigger...........Click!  I must not have cranked the bolt back far enough to pick up another cartridge.  Mr. Coyote lives to hunt another day.  The fox was one of the nicest I have seen, a perfect thick red coat without a blemish.  I cant get enough of this critter hunting right now so hopefully there will be more action to come this weekend.  From the out foxed marshes of North Dakota....Keep Livin' the Dream!
